This Privacy Policy describes how Decoded Lemon ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information in connection with Vaya (the "App"), an app that helps you discover things to do around you across South Africa. We are committed to being transparent about our data practices.
1. Information We Collect
Vaya can be browsed as a guest, and you can choose to create an account to sync your saved places. Depending on how you use the App, we may collect the following categories of information:
- Account Information — if you choose to sign in, your name and email address (or the identifier from your chosen sign-in provider) so we can sync your saves and collections across devices.
- Saves & Collections — the experiences you favourite and the collections you create. For guests, this is stored only on your device; if you sign in, it is synced to your account.
- Location Data — with your permission, your device's approximate or precise location is used to show experiences near you, calculate distances, and place pins on the map. You can use the App without granting location access by choosing a region manually.
- Advertising Data — Vaya displays ads through Google AdMob, which may access an advertising identifier and limited device and usage data to serve and measure ads (see Section 5).
- Usage & Device Data — basic technical information such as device type, operating system version, and app interactions, used for compatibility, stability, and improving the App.
We do not collect payment card details within the App.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to operate and improve Vaya. Specifically, we use it to:
- Show you a personalised feed of experiences relevant to where you are.
- Power search, filters, distances, and the interactive map view.
- Save your favourites and collections and, if you sign in, sync them across your devices.
- Enable you to share an experience or collection with friends and family.
- Display advertising and keep the App free to use.
- Diagnose technical issues and improve performance and content.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Location
Vaya requests access to your device's location to surface nearby experiences and provide accurate distances and map results. Granting location access is optional — if you decline, you can still browse by selecting a region manually. You can change or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.
4. Data Stored on Your Device
If you use Vaya as a guest, your saves, collections, and preferences (such as your chosen region and theme) are stored locally on your device. Removing the App erases this locally stored data. If you sign in, this data is also associated with your account so it can be restored on other devices.
5. Third-Party Services
Vaya relies on the following third-party providers to operate the App:
- Google AdMob — used to display advertising within the App. AdMob may collect and process an advertising identifier and limited device data to serve and measure ads. Their practices are governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can learn about ad personalisation controls at Google Ads Settings.
- Map & Location Services — used to display maps, place pins, and provide directions to experiences.
- Backend & Authentication — used to store experience content and, where you sign in, to authenticate your account and sync your saves securely.
6. Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously. Data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted using industry-standard TLS, and account data is protected behind secure sign-in. While we implement strong technical safeguards, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you become aware of any security concern, please contact us immediately.
7. Data Retention
We retain account data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with legal obligations and resolve disputes. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time, either in-app or by contacting us (see Section 10).
8. Children's Privacy
Vaya is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App may display advertising and contains location-based content, so a parent or guardian should supervise use by minors. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
9. Your Rights
Depending on where you are located, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws such as POPIA (South Africa), GDPR (EU/UK), and CCPA (California, USA) — including the right to access, correct, or delete your data, to object to certain processing, and to opt out of personalised advertising. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in Section 10. We will respond within a reasonable time and in any case within 30 days where required by law.

By downloading, installing, or using Vaya (the "App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the App. The App is operated by Decoded Lemon ("we," "us," or "our").
1. Eligibility & Accounts
You may browse Vaya as a guest. Creating an account is optional and lets you sync your saves across devices. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information when registering and to keep it up to date.
2. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the App only for its intended purpose — discovering and planning things to do. You agree that you will not:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
- Attempt to access data or accounts belonging to other users.
- Scrape, copy, or redistribute the App's experience listings or content without permission.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the App, or use automated scripts or bots against our systems.
3. Experience Listings & Accuracy
Vaya aggregates and displays information about events, venues, markets, and other experiences, including details such as descriptions, pricing in Rands, opening hours, and contact details. This information may be supplied by third parties or change without notice. We do our best to keep listings accurate but do not guarantee that any detail — including availability, pricing, or hours — is complete or current. Please confirm key details with the venue or organiser before you travel.
4. Third-Party Venues & Links
Experiences listed in Vaya are operated by independent third parties. We are not responsible for the products, services, safety, or conduct of any venue, event, or organiser, and listing an experience does not constitute an endorsement. Any dealings between you and a third-party venue are solely between you and that venue.
5. Advertising
Vaya is free to use and supported by advertising served through Google AdMob. Ads are provided by third parties, and we are not responsible for the content of, or any products or services offered in, third-party advertisements.
6. Content You Provide
You retain ownership of the content you create, such as your saves and collections. By using the App's sharing features, you grant us a limited technical licence to host and transmit that content solely to provide the sharing and sync features to you and the people you share with.
7. Service Availability & "As-Is" Disclaimer
The App is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or always available, and content and features may change over time. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Decoded Lemon shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of data or reliance on any listing, arising from your use of the App.
8. Account Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time, either in-app or by contacting us. We may retain certain information where required to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.
9. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any legal action arising under these Terms shall be brought exclusively in courts located in South Africa.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may modify these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide notice in-app. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
